The footage, shared by the state’s Division of Wildlife Sources on Friday, reveals crews filling a small plane with scores of “fingerlings,” or fish beneath the age of 1, earlier than they’re dumped out of a chute into greater than 200 high-elevation lakes in Utah.
“The fish are between 1-3 inches lengthy, so that they flutter down slowly to the water,” the company stated on Fb.
The airplane holds a whole lot of kilos of water and may drop 35,000 fish in a single journey, the company stated.
Wildlife specialists stated the aerial dumps are a more practical methodology of stocking fish than transporting them by floor because it’s tough to keep up the animals’ oxygen ranges in packed tanks for lengthy distances.
“Put up-stocking netting surveys present that survival of aerial-stocked fish is extremely excessive,” the company stated.
