Famed Dutch crime reporter Peter R. de Vries is reportedly clinging to life after getting shot on an Amsterdam avenue on Tuesday.
De Vries, a celeb within the Netherlands recognized for exposing the prison underworld, was blasted within the head shortly after leaving the studio of Dutch broadcaster RTL, police officers and the media community mentioned.
Three suspects, together with the attainable gunman, have been detained after the taking pictures, police mentioned.
“He was significantly wounded and is combating for his life,” Amsterdam Mayor Femke Halsema mentioned in a televised information convention.
“He’s a nationwide hero to us all. A uncommon, brave journalist who tirelessly sought justice.”
De Vries, 64, steadily seems on crime exhibits within the Netherlands and is a well-sourced reporter with contacts in each regulation enforcement and the underworld.
He’s well-known for his investigative work on the 1983 kidnapping of the beer magnate Freddy Heineken.
In 2008, he received a world Emmy Award for his work investigating the 2005 disappearance of teenager Natalee Holloway in Aruba.
